UNITAID's mission is to support the scaling up of access to treatment for HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria primarily for people in low-income countries. UNITAID does this by influencing the market to reduce the price of quality medicines and diagnostics, and by accelerating the pace at which these health products are made available.
Partly thanks to UNITAID, prices of medicines
for the three priority diseases continue to fall.
for the three priority diseases continue to fall.
UNITAID achieves its impact by combining three interrelated measures pooling of large-scale drug procurement, 'bulk' volume price negotiation, and support for the speedier prequalification of medicines by the World Health Organization.
Since 2006, UNITAID has consistently expanded its income, the number and scope of its projects, and its experience in the area of drug supply to developing countries.
