Description of the project

UNITAID Support for Global Fund Round 6, Phase 1 is a cross cutting project addressing all three diseases. The project’s MOU provides for a commitment of US$ 52,500,000.  However, after one country chose to not avail of the UNITAID funding, the project now provides a total budget of US$ 38.691 million to strengthen the Global Fund's actions in 42 grants in 37 (this is after deducting Mozambique)  countries and increase the number of people treated.  As of  project reporting dated September 2010, UNITAID's support has facilitated the delivery of 29 561 30,052 paediatric AIDS medicines (in seven countries), 7 465 7,477 second line AIDS medicines (six countries), 11 173 036  2,650,652 artemisinin-based antimalarials (in 13 countries), and 3 298 3,168 treatments for MDR-TB (in 17 countries).
