Scale up access to treatment and reduce prices of medicines for the treatment of HIV/AIDS, multi-drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) and malaria through Global Fund grants in Round 6, Phase 1.
UNITAID support for Global Fund Round 6, Phase 1 is a cross-cutting project addressing all three diseases.
As of June 2012, the project had supplied the following products in 42 countries:
- 31,970 paediatric HIV treatments
- 7,477 Second-Line HIV treatments
- 2,833,457 artemisinin-based combination therapies
- 3,168 treatments for MDR TB
Channelling funds through the Global Fund system has helped to strengthen existing country procurement activities without creating new processes.
