Adapted treatment for paediatric tuberculosis

Challenge:

Children suffering from tuberculosis left behind through lack of child-adapted treatments.

Response:

Create the market for child-adapted TB medicines by increasing number of manufacturers; respond to new WHO guidelines which recommend higher dosages for children.

Results:

  • Over 1.2 million curative and preventive treatments provided for children.
  • UNITAID provides funding to TB Alliance to facilitate the development of child-adapted medicines that meet new WHO guidelines for treating children with TB.

 

Children

UNITAID brought the first-ever quality paediatric TB medicines to market and is one of the largest providers of quality child-friendly TB medicines.
