Increasing access to better and cheaper medicines and diagnostics for HIV/AIDS

Of the approximately 34 million people living with HIV today, about 95% are in low- and middle-income countries. Over the last decade, smart investments have turned the tide on the HIV/AIDS epidemic in these countries. Millions of lives have been saved thanks to prevention, testing and treatment efforts. In 2011, 8 million of the estimated 14.8 million people eligible for treatment in low- and middle-income countries were receiving HIV/AIDS treatment, according to UNAIDS.
